Subject:Noise Help Please?

I use a program called Camtasia Studio 5 to do my software help videos. It has always been extremely weak in it's audio areas but I am having real problems at the moment. I capture video whilst narratinf the audio at the same time. CS5 has a built in noise filter which works pretty well. The problem occurs when I insert a narration. I am recording with PCM 22050 16bit mono and when I insert my own corrections I get a lot of hum. The odd thing is that I don't get it in my ordinary CS5 capture. When I import it to Soundforge AS I can see the noise on the timeline. It looks about 20db but I could be wrong. Is there any way I can highlight this in SAS and remove it without damaging the voice recording too much? |

If you have SForge v9, or the noise reduction plugin - use that. Leave some of the noise before your dialogue - it will use that as a noise print. Tweak the settings a bit - and you'll hopefully hit your jaw on the floor as it cleans up noise you thought would be impossible to remove. I'm still impressed by it's ability nearly every day. The only thing that beats it is iZotope RX. As for hum, more specifically it sounds like a mains hum from what you describe - a ground loops perhaps? Noise reduction will help with that too, or you can filter it out with EQ at 50 or 60 Hz depending on your mains frequency. HTH Ken |
