Subject:Difference between Acid and Vegas?

Hi All,

I've used Acid a bit, but have never used Vegas. I'm
getting ready to buy one or the other if I can get away
with only owning one...

Can anyone tell me the difference between the two? Here's
what I'm trying to do. I have a synth and Rebirth 2.0
along with a ton of samples I made myself (I won't be using
any pre-made samples at all). I want to be able to create
original music with these samples and add effects to them
when necessary. Also curious about recording on more than
one channel at a time, e.g., does either of these packages
allow me to record two stereo (or two separate mono) tracks
at once?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

-m

Vegas is a true multitrack program. It allows you to record on
multiple tracks and also let's you combine multiple wave files on 1
track so that you may edit them together . You can't do that in
acid. With Acid you get 1 track per wave file and you can only
record 1 stereo input at a time. Acid is a looped based program and
works well if you're using multiple loops that are at different
tempo's and/or key signatures. It will Loop then together at a
master key signature and master tempo that you set in Acid. Think of
Vegas as a recording, editing and mixing program and Acid as a
creation tool for preproduction of songs. You can do mixing in acid,
but does not have all the extra tools that Vegas does. You can also
loop wave files in Vegas, but it doesn't have the master tempo and
key signature function like Acid, so using multiple loops at
different tempo's are a bit more challenging. If you're not using
any smpte or midi sync with other programs you might be able to go a
cheaper route and actually get both. You can purchase "Acid Music"
and you have all the looping abilities like "Acid Pro" except you
can't generate midi beat clock or Midi timecode to sync up external
sequencers (last I saw this was $60)....so this should be fine for
what you're doing. Then also check into Video Factory ($89), it has
most of the features that Vegas Video has. I'm not even sure what
the differences are between Vegas Video and Video Factory except
reduced video editing abilities, they look like the same program to
me, I'm not sure if Video Factory allows you to have Direct X
plugins, so you might want to check into that if you need plugins for
mixing. I hope this helps, the other thing you might want to do is go
to the downloads section and download the demos of each program and
test them out for yourself to see what you need. Hope this helps.
