Subject:sound card mutes output when recording in acid

i have an ibm thinkpad laptop that mute the playback when
recording in acid. you can hear the tiniest bit of the
output but you have to really crank it. i think the driver
or actually hardware does that to prevent feed back from
the laptops built in mike. i know the sound chip is capable
of full duplex stuff, ive used it to do audio chat with
