VP8 is failing to open and hangs in the "iinitalizing UI" stage.
Only way I can get it to open is reboot..
Anybody else have this problem?
Any solution?
I'll be rebooting now.

Hi

Have you installed mediamanager? That could maybe cause the hang.

I had this problem with ver. 7 once on one of my PC's. There was no explanation, it was on a clean OS install etc. That one didn't just like media manager, so I think it could have been a MS SQL problem too.

yes I have this problem too -- no answers!! fallen back to Vegas 7
this is a first in what must be 8-10 years with vegas going back to vegas 2. Acid 6 also giving NUMEROUS problems with Kontakt 3. Dropped Acid 6 and gone back to Sonar (with some regret).

WHAT IS GOING ON SONY!!?? PLEASE FIX THEM SOON

I have had this problem in V7 and V8 (possibly also in V6, I am not sure now). I can usually get around it by doing one of the following two things:

1) Invoking task manager while Vegas is hung. This seems to strike fear into Vegas and it then proceeds to complete its launch.

2) If the above doesn't work, launch another instance of Vegas. Either the original instance will now complete launching or the second instance will complete. If the latter happens, close it, and the first instance will now complete.

All this is a bit cumbersome, but it almost always works. By the way, I have Media Manager enabled, but the problem remains if I turn it off, or at least it did when I experimented under V7. Good luck.

For anyone else who has had this probllem I disocvered the following solution from Sony Tech support.

Once the application is hanging at the splash screen, try pressing Enter on your keyboard without clicking on the Splash window or anywhere else. You may also want to try navigating to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Sony\PROGRAM NAME\Version Number, and either delete the file ExplorerFavorites.txt, or open it in notepad and delete any lines which refer to folders which are missing from your system.

I tried both of these. Neither worked for me. The cumbersome method I described above still works for me, however. Perhaps we will never know a good, universal way to avoid this problem...
