Subject:Auto STOP record on No input signal?

Is there a way to STOP the record mode when the input
signal goes below a specified dB level for a specified
period of time?

I'm doing lots of Vinal to CD transfers and sometime would
like to have the recording stop automatically when the
record ends

thanks

Fred

Hi Fred,

As far as I know, that's not possible.

Best,
Scott

By the sounds of it, it seems like you want to be able to hit record
and walk away and not have all your hard disk space eaten up when you
come back right? You can accomplish this by going to the Record
window and selecting "Punch-In (record a specific length) in the drop
down menu. Then enter the approximate time that your Vinyl is, in
the "Length" field, Hit record and walk away. Sound forge will stop
recording when it reaches that particual "length" you entered.

Brian,
Of course!!!! How Stupid of me. I'd assumed that Punch-in was only
useful AFTER I'd recorded and wanted to "punch-in" an alternative.
Duh - Many Thanks.

Just my two cents to say I wish that Sound Forge did have a feature
to allow the recording to stop when dB's dropped below a certain
level.

What I'd like to be able to do is simply mic a room and have Sound
Forge begin recording whenever dB's go above a certain level and then
stop when dB's go below a certain level, with the "trigger" for
recording set back on after recording stops. Why? Because I'd like
to have the conversations in a certain room recorded, but not have to
go back and edit out hours of dead air by hand.

P.S. And no, this is not for sneaky or illegal purposes. The
microphone would be totally visible. If I'd needed this for sneaky
or illegal purposes I would probably have worked harder to find an
alternate solution. =)

I never use this much, but I believe this is exactyly what the "Auto
Trim/Crop" function will do under the "process" window. You set a
Threshold and it will do an automatic romoval of silence. You can
also do a similar thing using the "Auto Region" function. This is a
much safer way of doing things, you never risk chopping off the front
of something you wanted recorded.
