Anyone know if I can simply take my 24 tracks of *.wav files from my HD24, copy them into a folder and then import these into SoundForge, do some magic and export back out to my docking station? These would be 24 mono tracks, but maybe I can import and export a few at a time. Thanks, Nick |

Yep sure, but waht are you planning on doing to them and how ? Usually the trip is one-way, from the HD24 (or similar) into a DAW for editing and mixing - this is NOT what SF is designed for. I suck stuff from my SDR into Vegas ( just swapping the disk tray over). Also, the tracks in you HD24 are likely discrete WAV files, not a single mulit-channel WAV file. geoff |

Thanks Geoff, I was hoping to get all 24 tracks on display, apply plugins as needed (E.Q., noise reduction, etc.) to each track and bring that on back to the HD24. We would then mix this on our outboard mixer for a stereo master and then feed that back into SoundForge for the grand master. I know this sounds like overkill, but we'd like to give this a try. I guess this brings up another question. If all this works would I be able to play all 24 tracks on SoundForge (even though can't mix) to hear what might be a composite? Eventually, we will get Vegas, but for now we plug and play. Nick |

You cannot do this in SoundForge, at least not without a hell of a lot of frigging around. SoundForge cannot import and play back a bunch of WAV files at the same time. It can process an effects chain across a whole single whole multi-channel WAV file, or selections of it at a time, which is probably too crude for what you want to do, apart from menial things like normalisation which you could do with the SF Batch Converter.. SoundForge is just NOT the tool that you can use in the way you want - it is an editor in the correct definition of the term. Vegas (or Acid) is the coorect type of application for what you want to do. So are varous other DAWs. But I would question the value of exporting it all back out to the HD24, then through a mixer, then back in. Why not just do it all straight off in Veags ? I agree, Vegas is the way to go, but for the record, I did have some success. I was able to open up a SoundForge 9.0 file with 24 mono tracks and then using explorer , click and drag my 24 .wav files into the corresponding 24 tracks (one at a time). I then opened up a separate file for each track I wanted to edit and do whatever I wanted and then re-apply it back. Was able to play all 24 tracks on my M-audio, Athlon X2 5000+. Nick |
