I am relatively new and have a couple of questions. I currently own SFAS and want to get sound studio 9. My question-when it does the multi track, does it allow you to edit different instruments or vocals? I want to be able to take just the backing track and the vocals and be able to seperate them and then mix the vocals and paste them back into the backing track. Also, will it work to remove certain vocals while not distorting the instrumental part? |

Generally, if you have a stereo track - there's not a lot you can actually do with it. In terms of seperating instruments / vocals and re-mixing - basic answer is no. You may get lucky with some material and remove vocals or centre-channel content with phase inversion, but that's about all the mileage you get. Results really do vary depending on song. Have a multitrack file, with all the elements seperate - then you can work on each element individually and tweak them as you desire. If you're looking to mix multi-track in SF, the best you've got is the volume envelopes. Whilst SF9 is a multichannel editor, it is not a multi-track application. That's Vegas/Acid territoty in the Sony collection. Hope that answers your questions. |
