Scanning video input

Hi everyone. I have got a 70 minute video clip. This clip is obtained from a Hi8mm analog tape, recorded 8 years ago, by linking an analog Sony camescope to the firewire port passing through a recent digital Sony camescope. MS Moviemaker was used in the capture process, because no matter what I did Vegas did not work. Now I have imported the clip into Vegas and I want to scan the clip and have Vegas automatically divide it into scenes. How should I proceed? Please advise. Many thanks in advance.

Vegas has no such function. Check out Scenalyzer. It's supposed to be able to split up a file using optical scene detection.

What's a camescope?

Thanks for the advice. I'll try that software. Sorry, by mistake I used the french word "camescope" instead of camcorder. Sometimes long hours of work in one language followed by switching into another language causes such usage errors.

Ah, le Français... Ordinateur anyone? I just love the way the French invent words for modern technology!

Oh, no need to apologize. I was just curious. I did a google search and found hundreds of different usages, most of them not particularly in agreement with each other. I just wanted to know how you were using the word.

Well it is not surprising to find many meanings for such words. Most of the time you have to give a brief explanation of what it means especially when shopping. As to the software scene analyzer, it was freeware but now it is rather expensive for what it claims to do. I found an older free version which crashed the moment I started using it.
