I would like to buy a MP3/WAV recorder. I have been looking primarily at Cowon, Creative, Samsung, and SanDisk, but I am open to other suggestions. Suggestions or experiences would be appreciated. Requirements: 1. FM receiver sensative enouugh for a low-power transmitter in a large stadium. 2. Battery capable of recording audio 8 hours (preferably 10) without recharge. 3. Battery rechargable without a PC, but use a standalone power pack. 4. Capable of holding 24+ hours of audio. Recordings will be 6 4-hour segments (morning and afternoon for 3 separate days). Cannont offload to a PC during this time. 5. Primary recording will be speaking. Music will be minimal. Currently not interested in video. 6. Offload to a PC with USB 2.0 using Windows XP or Vista. Wish list: 1. Prefer to record internally in WAV, but MP3 is acceptable. 2. Record using a built-in mocrophone (low priority). 3. Small enough to carry in an inside pocket in a suit jacket. 4. Easy to physically navigate the menues. Sensitive slide bars can be difficult for me at times because my hands sometimes shake (older age). Push buttons or maybe a joy stick might be easier for me. 5. The FM receiver have some presets. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you, Larry |

Take a look at the Archos 400 series or higher. They do everything you mention except most models don't have an FM receiver. Some do. But even then i'd probably use a dedicated external FM receiver instead. I have one of the lower models, the 404. Doing audio only i can record about 8 hours and playback about 25 hours. I got an external 4 cell AA pack for about 5 bucks for when i need it. It can also recharge from USB or an AC adapter. It has a 30GB drive which can hold about 55 hours of CD quality audio. At FM quality it could probably hold 110 hours uncompressed or over 500 hours of MP3. Some of the even lower models that are audio-only might have more FM receiver choices, but i've never looked at them as i wanted a model with video capabilities. |
