Hi, I'm pretty sure this topic must have been debated here earlier but, I haven't been able to locate it. I have just bought Vegas Movie Studio Platinum. My work with it will involve quite a lot of audio editing so I downloaded a trial version of Sound Forge 9 to see how the two work together. At the same time I thought Sound Forge might be a good "upgrade" to replace my Cool Edit 2000. I have used CE 2000 with noise plugins extensively since 2001 for transferring LP's to CD's. My workflow in CE 2000 includes splitting each side of an LP into single tracks with the division exactly on the border between two 75 fps-segments without having to erase anything . I can't find any way to do the same in Sound Forge. I can set my preferences to a lot of other formats, but not 75 fps. Does anybody know any way of getting around this problem? I have seen suggestions on the net to do the splitting in CD Architect (which I don't have). Another solution may be in the Mastering Effects Bundle by iZotope which apparently doesn't come with the trial version of Sound Forge. So, I want to be able to split one side of an LP into separate tracks, with the cursor placing itself exactly on the border between two 75 fps-frames without loosing any part of the signal. I hope somebody here can help me. Thanks in advance. |

Have a look at this thread where the method of working with 75 fps segments in SF is discussed. BTW doing this in CD Architect is also a good idea. If you purchase SF you will get CDA thrown in for free. Mark |

Thanks very much, Mark. That was just what I needed. Maybe you or someone else can also point me in the right direction regarding a related question. In CE2000 I can create separate audio files from the entire side of a recorded LP by creating what CE calls "Cue lists". It is done by first making a "cue" at the beginning of the entire file and then more cues where I decide to make the split between "tracks". I finish off with a final cue at the end of the file and, after that I can save all files in the "cue list" as separate files, ready for transfer to my burning program. Is there any similar process in SF? And, is there any way in this forum I can show you my gratitude for your swift and precise reply? Message last edited on10/15/2008 2:11:55 PM bymilter. |

You can set markers or regions on the timeline to indicate the songs. If you've used markers, then when you're all done go to Special / Regions List / Markers to Regions to make them regions instead. Then go to Tools / Extract Regions to save each as a separate file. |

Burning program ?!!! Just do it all in CD Architect ! Open the (big) files in CDA, position the cursor at the track position and hit T. If you want to change the order of the tracks( or delete, etc) , just hit S to split, then re-arrange them at will. geoff Message last edited on10/15/2008 8:07:13 PM byGeoff_Wood. |

@ Chienworks. Thanks, I have just tested your method and it is exactly what I was looking for. @ Geoff Wood. Also many thanks for your suggestion. I will, of course, be using CDA for burning once I get it but it isn't included in my trial version of SF9. The problem in some cases is that the split has to be made at exactly the right position. Can that be done in CDA? If you know "The Dark Side of The Moon" by Pink Floyd you'll know what I mean :-) |

You can download a trial version of CD Architect here. I don't think it will allow you to actually burn a CD, but it should allow you to see how everything works up to that point and decide if it will be suitable for you. (I'd be surprised if it isn't - CDA is the Rolls Royce of audio CD creation software.) Mark |

Thanks again, Mark. I've had a little bit more time to look at both SF and CDA now and my initial impressions are very positive. All that remains seems to be a search on the net for the cheapest way to acquire them. Thank you very much to everybody for your assistance. |

Every now and then Sony offer a special deal on some of their software, typically a program for half price, or two programs for the price of one. It is possible that they may offer such a deal involving Sound Forge alongside the forthcoming release of Acid Pro 7. (I've no idea whether they will do this, but they've done similar things in the past - it might be worth holding on for a week or two to find out, if you're not in a great hurry to purchase.) Alternatively you can sometimes pick up an old version at a very low price from a retailer who has old stock to shift and then use that to qualify for an upgrade to the current version for typically around half the full price.
