Hi everyone. First time here. I just got SF9. I have not used any versions of SF before. When I go to Options, then Preferences, then Audio Tab, I then select my M-Audio Fast Track channels 1 & 2 on the Record Tab. I then go back to my Live Window, open the Recording Dialog box and record just fine. No problem. But, to play it back through my monitor speakers, I have to go back to Options, then Preferences, then Audio Tab again, click on the Playback Tab a reset my playback to my sound card outputs. Is this correct? That can't be right? It is a big hassle! How can I set my playback outputs and my recording inputs to two different sources? Any advice would be appreciated!! |

Maybe I did not ask my question properly... After recording something, using the record dialog box, if I click on play, I can see the line scan across the waveform, but, can not hear anything. I have to go back into the Preferences and re-set my playback outputs to my sound card. Then I hear it just fine. To continue recording, I must go back again and change my recording input to my USB. Is there a way to lock my preferences for my playback and recording so that changing one Tab does not automatically change the other? Thanks Bill |

Dunno if this will help with your device at all, but here's what i did ... Right-mouse-button click on the speaker icon in the task bar, choose Adjust Audio Properties. Select the Audio tab. You can set up the default playback and recording devices independently here. You'll probably have to have Sound Forge's Audio device type set to Microsoft Sound Mapper for this to work. |

WOW! Thank you Mr. Chien! It took all of 15 seconds to make those changes. Everything is working just fine now. I have never gone through that particular route, to enable devices, with any other software I have used. I would never have thought of that. You are Da' Man! Bill |

Most welcome. I'll warn you though, while this has worked fine on my desktop, on my laptop every now and then one or the other will switch and they'll both be pointing to the same device again. No idea why, but every now and then i have to go back and set them up again. Maybe it's because my laptop gets rebooted about once a month, but my desktop only gets rebooted once a year or so. |

Install many audio apps will reset the audio device selection to some default other than what you had chosen, just like the ones that grab all your file associations without asking ( SF doesn't !). That is a fault of the other app's installer. geoff |
