Subject:Can't audition 75ms 96 kHz sample in Pitch Shift

In SF 9, I can't audition pitch shifting a 75 ms stereo 96 kHz 16-bit sample using the Pitch Shift Effect, in any of the Pitch Shift modes. None of the controls do anything and I can only hear it if I apply the effect. Makes for a rather long iterative process...
