Subject:internal keyboard recording, how to

Hi, odds are this is a really stupid question but.....I can't figure out how to record with the internal keyboard (the one that pops up when you go into the view dropdown menu and select "keyboard")
I've messed around for a hour or so looking at different recording options, every time I press record, the recording window pops up and freezes the program, until you stop the recording.
I've got no issue recording from external sources.
I'm using 9.0
Thanks in advance.

It's bizarre. Sound Forge will record anything ... except it's own internal keyboard. Anything can record Sound Forge's internal keyboard, except Sound Forge. There's obviously some deliberate function in the program that prevents it from working.

My solution? I launch Vegas and record in that while playing Sound Forge's keyboard. Works great. If you don't have Vegas then use any other recording application.

The "deliberate function" is that recording is a modal operation in Forge. You can't mess with the keyboard (or anything else) while the Record dialog is open.

All the Keyboard view does is send MIDI messages to the selected MIDI output device anyway (typically MS MIDI Mapper and/or Window's built-in GS Synth). You can either record with something else as noted, or use some other app or device to drive the MIDI output device and record in Forge.
