I have two boot partitions, one Windows XP and one Windows Vista 64-bit. Nowadays I always work on the Vista partition. When firing up Sound Forge 9, I noticed my plug-ins have gone, look at this: Sound Forge 9 on Windows XP: ![]() Sound Forge 9 on Windows Vista 64-bit: ![]() So - where are they? I have uninstalled and reinstalled Sound Forge 9 - the plug-ins are still missing.. ingvarai |

Sony Media Software keeps plugins from older / other software installations available in a folder called Shared Plug-Ins (imagine that). It is obvious that you don't have all the same Sony Software from older / other installations on your Vista computer that you had on your XP computer. You can try copying the plugins from the Shared Plug-Ins folder on your old machine to the Shared Plug-Ins folder on your new machine. The ones that are compatible/usable with your current Vista installation should work. However, most of those plugins on your XP installation are probably 32-bit. Hi musicvid, However, most of those plugins on your XP installation are probably 32-bit Sony Sound Forge is a 32 bit application, and it uses 32 bit plug-ins. I used to have all these plug-ins available, but suddenly they have disapperared. In fact - Sound Forge does not work properly when some of the plug-ins are missing, most notably the Sony Volume plug-in. When right-clicking a sound file, and selecting "Volume Envelope", I get this error: ![]() I uninstalled Sound Forge 9 completely, and installed and registered it again. And - I have restarted my machine, and I get this error regardless of what file I load into Sound Forge. It just does not load the plug-ins it needs in order to function. I will try to look for the shared plug-ins folder. ingvarai Message last edited on6/22/2009 11:36:12 PM byingvarai. |

The path to the folder should be something like: C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins If they are there, you can try 1) Temporarily disabling UAC (User Account Control) in Vista; or 2) Temporarily renaming the folder, start and then close Sound Forge, and then name the folder back to its original name. |

Mi musicvid, >Temporarily disabling UAC (User Account Control) in Vista Here is is permanently disabled. >The path to the folder should be something like: C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins It is, but I do not need this path under Options/VST Effects, it seems. As a matter of fact - I now got it working, having tried for almost 8 hours. The Sony products (I own Sound Forge and various Vegas versions, CD Architect and DVD Architect), have been many times as expensive than the mere purchase price, because of some installation issues. The suggested solutions by Sony, unistalling all Sony products, hand cleaning the registry and so on, takes a few hours, because the registry keys have restricted access (owned by no-one), and I had to work my way setting the rights by hand for every key. I have now followed this comprehensive procedure, and it first did not help. I installed and uninstalled and registered the product countless times. First when I logged in as another user, and installed and logged out and logged in as the ordinary user, things started to happen. Oh yes, not that easy. Still got the same error messages. But having uninstalled Sound Forge for the zillionth time, and the attempting to install it - the installer complained about Sound Forge was already there, even when uninstalled. So I uninstalled it a second time. When I now installed, it again, the problem is gone. I have no idea about what is happening. I am a professional programmer besides of working with multimedia, and have no clue about what really happened. I wish I had, for similar events in the future.. Ok - now it finally seems to work, thanks for your help anyway. I love the Sony products, they are great, all of them. And I use them several hours every day, for all kinds of productions. I wish I could have avoided these installation issues, nevertheless - now all Sony products sing and play just fine on my machine. ingvarai Message last edited on6/27/2009 10:19:27 AM byingvarai. |

"I wish I could have avoided these installation issues," Not speaking for Sony, but having been here for a while, I can assure you that problems of the complexity and persistence you have experienced, although not unheard of, have been reported only rarely -- they are usually confined to inexperienced users who imagine they have to second-guess the system and end up making all sorts of unorthodox changes that mess up the registry -- even rarer for experienced programmers such as you. Glad you got it worked out though; just wanted to assure you these extreme issues are very atypical for the knowledgeable user. Message last edited on6/27/2009 7:20:58 PM bymusicvid10. |

Hi musicvid, >..have been reported only rarely >just wanted to assure you these extreme issues are very atypical for the knowledgeable user I think these problems occur more often than this, and I think it is related to Vista. Here: Some time ago, I could not even start some Sony Creative applications, because of similar problems: I have used Sony Creative products on XP 32 bit for a long time, no probs whatsoever, it all started when I switched to Vista 64-bit. I have tons of applications installed, Synth Eyes, Image Mixer 3, Autostitch, Virtual Dub, Particle Illusion, Carrara Pro 7, Photoshop, Edius, Flix Pro, iZotope RX, Sonic Fire, Cakewalk Sonar Studio, ESI 1010 external sound card with mixer, and the whole range of Sony Creative products - plus a lot more. And worth to mention, when installing, I click Yes and OK all the time, I do not change, alter or tweak the installation in any way, for any application I install. Only Sony products have these issues, and it applies to several of them - there is a relationship. It is obvious that Sony Creative has some problems here, the standard reply I get when contacting support is a link to the comprehensive procedure about how to uninstall everything Sony, hand edit the registry, and even uninstall the .Net Framework(!). ingvarai Message last edited on6/28/2009 12:21:14 AM byingvarai. |
