I have SF 9.0d. Before updating to 9.0e (I'm assuming it's a free update) should I uninstall 9.0d OR will 9.0e write itself over the older version OR will it install as a new program? I'm hoping SF 9.0e will correct a problem I'm having with saving clips created with the Vinyl restoration tool. |

You are really asking two questions: should I uninstall 9.0d OR will 9.0e write itself over the older version OR will it install as a new program? By far the easiest method is just to install the update -- no need to uninstall the old one or do a fresh install. I'm hoping SF 9.0e will correct a problem I'm having with saving clips created with the Vinyl restoration tool. Unless the vinyl restoration plugin has also been updated, just installing the update will not necessarily overwrite it. The trick in your case would be to find the plugin (maybe in C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins)? and rename it by adding OLD to the end of the filename extension, then doing your upgrade. In this case, it will see the plugin is missing during the upgrade and install it fresh for you. |

There's usually no need to un-install. I've never had an issue anyway. (Dating back to SF-4) Updates are no cost. If I recall correctly, (with SF-9) the Vinyl restore utilities are part of the NR-2.0 plug-in set. Don't know if that updates along w/ SF-9 Message last edited on7/10/2009 5:57:03 PM byrraud. |

Upgrades to the same version can be installed over the top of old ones. Preferences are maintained, so no need to re-customise your paths and other settings. Installs of different versions V6, V7, etc) are separate enitities and can co-exist happily. geoff |

The Vinyl Recording and Restoration tool comes with Audio Studio, not Sound Forge. |

I just looked at the box the software came in and stand corrected! The box says Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio. So now I'm wondering if anyone here could answer my other post about how to stop the markers from being automatically added when using the vinyl restoration tool wizard. What happens is that when I finish transferring a vinyl track, if there are 'intentional' pauses in the track, the software breaks the track up into multiple track and then saves each track as a separate file. I then have to either manually put them all together later or stop the wizard to "save as", but when I do that I lose the album data that was already input into the wizard. This has become significant problem because I'm in the process of converting about 75 albums. |
