Is anyone else having problems with exported markers in 9.0e? The 'save metadata' box is checked and the markers appear when re-importing to SF. But I can't them into a Pro Tools session. |

Which file type? Some file types don't allow inclusion of metadata. Sound Forge will create a separate file with the same name and a .sfl extension to hold it. Sound Forge of course then knows to read this extra file when opening the audio file. Other programs probably won't. |

Just a PCM-uncompressed .wav file, generic Redbook 44.1k 16-bit stereo. But I think you're right, the .sfl probably is the lever on markers not finding their way into Pro Tools. Not a dealbreaker, but it would be convenient to be able to move between the programs with file markers intact. I work on game music and sound and have to frequently move files between Logic and Pro Tools on the Mac and Sound Forge on the PC. If you have further thoughts on marker migration, I'd appreciate them. Thanks. |

That is odd. .wav files definitely contain markers. Are you sure you're using the "Microsoft Wave" template? There's also a Scott Studios template which is more limited in capability. |

I know that ProTools uses a different method of defining Regions than Sound Forge (and most other audio apps) does. Perhaps there's a similar incompatibility with the way the two applications define Markers. There's a (unfortunately not free) application called Region Sync that can convert WAV files from the Protools method of containing regions to the SoundForge method (or vice versa). The website doesn't mention Markers but it might be worth downloading the demo to see if it helps in your situation. Mark Message last edited on7/25/2009 4:44:41 AM byMarkWWW. |

This is all pretty apparent from a RIFF viewer, but just to clarify: Sound Forge (and WaveLab and Audition) stores marker positions as "cue" points. The "adtl" list chunk contains indexed marker/region name as a "labl" item (if the user entered a name) and indexed region length as "ltxt" with a "rgn" identifier (if it is indeed a region). If someone would like to specify the ProTools method or share a file, we could perhaps explore a workaround. J. Message last edited on7/27/2009 8:08:44 AM byForumAdmin. |

Thanks to all for the attention to this question. (Note to Chienworks: I'm definitely using the Microsoft .wav file, not an alternative wav format.) Tried naming the markers in the SF file to see if that would trigger recognition on the mac, but PT still saw only the audio data. I'll also set up PT on the pc, something I've avoided so far in an effort to keep SF the only audio production environment on the pc. Message last edited on8/3/2009 12:43:47 PM byaedlen. |

Got this from a PT forum. It kinda closes the door, at least for now, and makes it into a feature request to Sony and/or Digidesign. Thanks to everyone for their help. "ProTools can import OMF or AAF data/sessions from other source software. However it means you would have to buy the DigiTranslator upgrade ( a few 100 quid) and the few times I've used it in the studio (albeit on a TDM system) its not really transferred all the information I thought it would. Although software gets better in terms of functionality (rather than the gigabytes of space it needs) I've not seen anything that could do what you are trying to do and I believe AAF format import has now been dropped by Digidesign." |
