i just installed SF9 and it's not recording (picking up sound).

my soundcards codecs are up-to-date and my line-in is defaulted in control panel & soundforge preferences.

what am i doing wrong?

The sound card's mixer control panel has two different groups of input settings. You're probably only looking at the "playback" screen. Go to Options / Properties / Recording and make sure you select line-in there. This selects the recording input. The playback selection has no effect on recording.
