I am trying to make a cd for my anniversary with me singing using karaoke music. I can open the karaoke music, but I can't figure out how to record my voice over the top on another track. When I go to record, the music (which I need to hear) stops.

How do I do this?

Sound Forge is primarily an audio editor. As such, it does not have DAW functions.
The Sony applications that will do multitrack recording are called Acid and Vegas, respectively.

Thanks, I have Vegas and it is working, although I have to move it to SF to add some effects.

Yeah. After recording in Vegas, you don't have to "move" the file to Sound Forge to add effects.

You can "Open a Copy in Sound Forge" to save a new take as well as the original, or "Open in Sound Forge" to work on and resave the original file. Look at your right-click event options.

You may also add effects (non-destructive also) right in Vegas, via the plug-in chainer. Small green icon on the tracks, sub-masters or main master. Or in a send/return type configuration like a traditional analog mixer.
Most effects and process' plug-ins that are in SF can be accessed in Vegas.
