I could be missing something. Easily. :)

Is there any way in SF 9 to have the waveform drawn live while recording? What about in version 10 (or 8) for that matter?

Thanks,
joe

Not likely, since the recording dialog window is application modal (that means that the rest of Sound Forge isn't running while it's recording).

Vegas does this, though only a certain recent amount is displayed. Older material to the left of the current display becomes simple orange bars rather than a waveform. However, in most situations you'll probably see several minutes of the most recent live waveform as it records.

Other than being a 'nice idea', any particular requirement ? The meters are the most important thing of course....

Actually the latest Vegas 9 update doesn't do this. We now generate peaks on the fly for the entire recording. This allows for both the entire peak data to be available during record, but allows for a much faster post record stage as the peak data is already generated and Vegas does not have to do it post record.

PS Peter, can you think of any reason NOT to install w7/64 on a new laptop that can ? (Firewire card and audio i/f are cool with it, supposedly....)

Yes, meters are most important.

We have a few people who we've trained on audio editing, and they'll need to monitor some recording sessions (lectures). I thought it would be swell if they could see the waveform as it was recorded, since they have been trained to identify levels that are too high or too low by looking at the waveform.

I guess it's more training for now. :)
