9.0e (build 441)
Hi,
I've been recording a big project for a few weeks with no problem. I use Sonar 8 and Gigastudio-both of which interface with Sound Forge perfectly. Today I discovered that one side is simply not being received / recorded in Sound Forge. Both channels are playing back but S.F. isn't hearing one side. Ideas? Thank you. Craig Parsons

What source is being recorded? Is it monaural? How is it being picked up? How are you feeding it into the computer? What sound device do you have? How are you routing that into Sound Forge?

When you say "both channels are playing back", where are they playing back from?

Sorry, lotsa questions, but we can't really usefully guess from what you've told us so far.

Hi Kelly,
Thanks for the quick response. Here goes: I'm recording in stereo both Gigastudio (as a ReWire device) and stand alone Roland and Proteus synths. They are sequenced by Sonar 8 Producer. I have been opening a stereo file to record in S.F., arming the tracks, hitting record and then playing back the given track from Sonar.

My sound set up is a M-Audio Delta 1010. It has a dedicated cable that routs all of the sound to the computer. The computer itself is a dedicated music station.

Internally, S.F. defaults to Midimapper and I haven't changed any of those settings. Essentially, I installed S.F., opened it up and it worked from the get go.

Hope I've answered the questions properly. Thank you again.
Craig

Why not just do it all in Sonar?
You've already got the sounds going into the computer from the hardware synths, why are you bringing them into SoundForge? Just create a pair of audio tracks in Sonar - one for the Roland and another for the Proteus. Arm record and let the computer do it's thing. I do this kind of thing lots of times. In my case I have a Poly Evolver rack mount synth and a Moog Voyager rack mount synth. I have the MIDI coming from Sonar to each of the hardware synths and route the audio from each of the synths to separate inputs on my soundcard (Edirol UA1000 USB 2.0 box).

Just remember to account for the lag in sounds coming from the hardware synths due to a/d conversion; they'll be sounding slightly later than Gigastudio which is resident on your computer.

Trust me, this works. If you don't believe me, go over to the Sonar forums and ask your question if you haven't already. FYI I run Sonar 8.3.1 if that makes any difference.
