Quality: ACID Pro vs Vegas Pro

I've had ACID and Vegas for around a decade now, and they are my primary two apps. I use ACID mostly for VSTi's, and for tracking guitars and arranging them. Then I use Vegas as my primary multitrack/mixing app.

My question is, has anyone else noticed any quality difference between recording into ACID and arranging then rendering, vs recording into Vegas and rendering? With all other things being equal of course.

I'm not sure if I can pick out any difference or not, but I wonder if anyone else can, or if anyone has done any kind of technical comparisons, null tests, etc...?

I normally record into ACID because it just feels more familiar and easier to track, do edits and punch-ins, compile and render. But if I can get any kind of quality increase from doing in Vegas to start with, I can get used to doing that.

Thanks.

As long as you are not timestretching in ACID - directly or indirectly - then the audio rendering engine in ACID is esentially the same as in Vegas.

If you have tempo changes and use loops or beatmapped files, then ACID is time streching and this can affect the rendered result. Depending on the media type, the artifacts introduced and result in a sonic difference. This would be no different if you timestretched an audio event in Vegas.

If you are not working with tempo changes in ACID, you should record using one-shot mode vs beat mapped. This essentially the Vegas way of recording.

So, with the one exception, the audio quailty between ACID and Vegas is equal.

I find Vegas still better than Acid for the type of audio recording and editing/mixing I do. All those little event alignment helpers, and slightly less cluttered all round ....

Thanks for the replies guys. I never do any timestretching or anything when recording guitar tracks, so I guess it's essentially the same as Vegas. I think it does beatmapped by default, but I'll see if I can change it to only do one-shot. How do I do that?

Thanks again.

How do I do that?

Options | Preference...

Audio tab.

Set 'ACID type for recorded audio' to 'One-Shot'.

Thanks again. That will help a lot. Now I just have to worry about ACID Pro 7 running under Windows 7 if I can upgrade my PC the way I'm wanting to soon.
