Subject:Bit Depth Conversion with Sound Forge 9?

I am importing some tracks from the mac. 24 bit wav files. I master those tracks in sound forge. On my chain the last thing I use is the Waves L2 with their dithering and noise shaping. Now I need to simply turn the file into a 16 bit file.

So, the question I am asking is how to do this?

My version of Sound Forge 9 came with an electronic manual. All you have to do is hit the F1 key, search your question, in this case something like "Bit Depth" and choose the result titled "bit depth converter"

yeah, i did that. all it says is to convert files and add dithering.

what i don't get is that there are multiple ways of converting files. one by switching the bit depth at the bottom right of the screen, two by doing a bit depth conversion, and three by simply saving the file as 16 bits.

normally, what you do in something like pro tools or logic is add dithering with a third party plug in and then export as a 16 bit file with no dithering.

so, if i am using waves l2 to dither, then all i want to do is save the file as 16 bit right?

that should truncate the remaining bits?

yes, if your last process is dither to 16 bit then simply save the file as a 16 bit file and you're done.
