Hope you can help, please. This pertains to Audio Studio version 8.0b, build 77, but maybe you can help anyway...the phone person said I could still get email support but the email system said I couldn't so I'm turning to the forums. I found an old thread that suggested unplugging peripherals and I did that but I still have the problem which is... When I try to extract from or burn to CD, the software does "scanning for devices" and locks up the computer such that the only way I can get out is to hold the power button down on the computer or shut it off at the power strip. Want more info?... If I wait like 5-10 minutes into the hang up, it eventually says "an error occurred during the current operation. An exception has occurred" but I can't give you the "details" because the computer still winds up locked up. And I have to reboot without shutting down properly. For the record... This software worked fine when it was installed on my old Dell computer (an 8 year (!) old one) but doesn't work on this new computer (even though it is the same XP Pro operating system), despite my uninstalling and reinstalling SoundForge Audio Studio a couple times, etc. It looks like it will be okay until I do something like try to extract or write to CD. It SHOULD find the device (built in CD/DVD player/writer) quickly and easily...not lock it up. By the way.... This is a new computer (about a year old), higher-end Dell (I had it built to order by Dell, in part so I could still get XP Pro then. I did not buy it from a consumer retailer) so it has plenty of memory (on hard drive and RAM)and everything should be fine. Please advise. I'm very frustrated about how to get this to work. I know Dell will say it is Sony's fault because the CD/DVD drive has worked perfectly well with all my other programs for all other functions (including burning via Roxio, etc.) Do we need to tweak a setting somewhere? I guess I could try a newer version of SoundForge but I'm hesitant to buy the newer version because the new one may lock up like this (not so old older version. (And I want to update my Acid too but am concerned it won't work either?) Such a mystery since it did work fine on the older computer with the same operating system. I should not need a new computer or drive for this software to work properly as, again, both are fine with everything else. :-) Sorry to be so wordy. I don't post to forums very often and don't know much about how much is enough info. |

Sounds like wonky CD/DVD writer firmware - have you tried updating it ? And have you officially logged the problem with Sony , here : http://www.custcenter.com/cgi-bin/sonypictures.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php geoff Message last edited on2/9/2010 11:35:47 AM byGeoff_Wood. |

Thanks, Geoff, I was worried no one would reply. :-) I'm not super tech-savvy so please tell me...how does one update their firmware? Is that something I do via Sony or via Dell? Again, as the computer is new (compared to the software), I'm surprised I'd have to update anything about my computer or drive but I'm certainly willing to try this firmware thing. The drive should be able to handle anything (to my way of thinking). Oh, and yes, I did try to ask the question via the link you provided but it just said that SF 8 wasn't eligible for email support...so that's why i thought I'd post here. Thanks again, Steph |

Firmware updates are usually found on the drive manufacturer's website. (If there is a firmware update.) Are you sure it is scanning for a 'drive' and not scanning for VST plugins?. A non-compatible or corrupt VST plug-in is known to occasionally exhibit this non-load behavior in SF. Try temporarily moving all the .dll files in the VST folder to an external or thumb drive to see if that helps. Then it would be just a matter of finding the offending plug. |
