Removing old plugins

How do I get plugins that are invalid, or no longer installed to quit showing up in the Plug-In Chooser in Vegas?

I've tried refreshing the VST effects in Preferences, and I've tried looking around the Plug-In Manager, all to no avail, unless I've overlooked something simple.

Anyone know how to get them to quit showing up? Thanks.

Have you deleted the associated .dll file from the VST folder(s)?

Yea, all the files are uninstalled and/or deleted from the folder, yet some of them still show up in Vegas. Some of them went away, but most of them didn't.

If deleting the .dll from one of the possible VST folders doesn't do it then try these:

--- - in Windows Explorer look for alternative VST folders. I'm guessing that you found one in the Program Files folder. There may be one in Program Files/Steinberg if it exists. Some plugs find and, if you are not careful, will create that path on installation even if you do not have any Steinberg apps. I take it that you know that in Vegas / Prefs / VST you can scan for a second folder.

--- Sometimes you need to look in Control Panel / "Add/Remove Programs" to see if there is an uninstall routine for the plug.

---- If you can't find that go to Program Folder and look for the app, if it exists, and delete everything - I don't believe the registry will be an issue.
If you are concerned with deleting this then rename the files with a BAK (or whatever) added to the end of the name . Now restart Vegas

Thanks for the reply. I have actually done all of these steps, yet some of the plugins remain, however if you try to select them in Vegas, it says they're not available. So in essence, they're uninstalled and gone in every way, except for in Vegas' Plug-in Chooser.

Consequently, I wish Vegas had the "ignore" folder in the plug-in chooser like Acid does. If I can't get them to stop showing up, at least I could put them in the ignore folder and get them out of the main view.

Has anyone else had this happen?

haven't run into that problem - sounds like the registry is holding on to references to those plugs - - you could search the registry -- "VST", "Plug-in", or "Sony", or "Vegas" etc. Are we having fun yet ?

you can create a new folder in the plugin chooser and dump the ones you don't want to see in there

What's the deal with Sony not allowing these plugins to work properly all of a sudden? Don't they know how to debug their own DX/VST plugin engine? Seriously? What the hell am I paying for if you can't get that part of the software right? FIX THE PROBLEM NOW!
