Hi,
I have a PIII 550, 196 Mb of RAM, TNT2 32Mb, DirectX 8 installed, a Maxi Sound Fortissimo for soundcard (maybe the soundcard is the problem i donno), and not a lot of application running when i run Acid Pro 3.0

Even if i change or not each options of the preferences/configuration of ACID Pro 3.0, nothing changes.
When i hit the Playback button i have to wait 5 to 10 seconds to hear the demo song (same thing with my songs) and when it's playing, it stutter, gaps, doesnt read the project continually.
Do someone know why ? :) (i had 2.0 which worked great thow)
Thanx for helping me out

Hello,

Go into options and make sure you don't have any midi settings selected in the last tab on the page if your not using midi devices theres no need to enable these settings, then go to the audio tab and turn your buffer up to about .75 to 1.25 and that should do the trick.

See ya

Hi there,
well i tryed what you said... but it didn't change anything whereas i noticed something: a friend have Acid Pro 3.0 too and had installed it on his computer, and the only difference is that his PC has a PIII 700 (i have PIII 550) and a Sound Blaster Live soundcard (i have a Maxi Sound Fortissimo). Maybe Sonic Foundry lied to us ! Maybe you need at least a PIII 700 or more to run properly Acid Pro 3.0. If what i say is true i'll go bakc to the 2.0 version which works greater on my computer.

I hate softwares that eat too much ressources and make you buy more hardware.

Hello again,

Well I had the same type of system and I went from a PIII650 to a PIII800 and still had the playback problems with stuttering and skips untill I increased the buffer and everything works good now I can chain 3 to 4 effects without any problem but I really don't use busses that much because right now I only have one sound card and it only needs the basic setup.

What type of harddrive are you using?

Harddrives that use PIO mode instead of DMA mode will cause gapping when more than one file is being played back from disk at a time. I noticed in your other post that you are using multiple disk based tracks. This is most likely the cause of your problem.

The other option is to turn down your video acceleration. However, if the problem is your harddrive this will not help you...

For reference, I have ACID 3.0 running quite smoothly on a Pentium II 333MHz with 96MB RAM. So your hardware profile (wrt processor speed and RAM) should be sufficient.

Hi,
I didn't understand, when tou said what "Type" of hardware i am using (you were talking about "that use PIO mode instead of DMA mode") ? Are you talking about the RAM or my Processor, HDD ? Where can i check that information ? That'd be really helpfull and when you say that i am using a lot of Disk Based audio file it was an example to see how far the software could go on computers. On mine, even the demo songs takes a while before playing when i hit the playback button.
Thanx for your support

You usually can check what mode your hard drive is running in by pressing "Delete" or "F1" when you first turn on your computer to get into your system's BIOS. Your screen will say something like, "Press DEL to enter Setup," or something like that. Have to be fast, though. The option to do so goes away quickly.

Your hard drive(s) should be listed under Primary/Secondary Master and/or Primary/Secondary Slave, as well as any settings such as DMA mode under those listings.

My disclaimer: Be very careful. If you don't know what you're doing, bail out. A user who doesn't know any better can cause his/her system not to boot if they twiddle around too much.

HTH,
Iacobus

Hi,

I see you want me to go into the bios mode ! Ok it's not that dangerous when you made your computer yourself. I'm going to check if i have this option for my Hardrive (in Primary normally).

Did you guys forgot me ? I haven't resolved my issue yet and i've send a mail to one of those SF guys who isn't replying me back (hate that). Wake up guys you're loosing a client :) ! I am almost about to buy 3.0 only if you tell me if i do need to upgrade my system (i have PIII 550, 196Mb Ram), or if i just need to change something in my system configuration (we told me to change PIO to DMA but nobody could explain exactly where can i change that, and i don't really think the issue is there).

Thanx for helping (again)

Hello,

When windows is booting up and you see the win98 splash screen hit esc and that screen will go away and you can see whats booting up look for your hard drive in the list and it should tell you if its UDMA 33 or UDMA 66 or not you may have to restart several times to read everthing. If your computer is fairly new like within the last two years its likely not going to be PIO

Thanx Rockitglider :) !
I managed to pause my screen but its a UDMA 66 so i think its ok (no "PIO"). But if the problem isn't here, where can it be ? Cuz the SF guy told me he had a less powerfull system configuration and that it was working smoothly, whereas in my case it doesn't.
