Subject:SF 8.0 Hangs on Adobe Driver - Workaround

For the past 2 years, I've had SF 8.0 on a Windows ME machine. I noticed when I later installed Adobe Premiere 1.5 Pro, SF 8 started trying to grab THAT driver, which it is not compatible with, and would hang. I was originally able to "fool" SF 8.0 by plugging in a usb mic and make it fall on a different device... but later on the VISTA platform, that trick stopped woorking. Getting the Adobe Windows Default Sound Driver completely out of the system where SF 8 wouldn't go after it anymore, proved one huge giant problem. I obliterated all adobe references I could find, even when into the registry, did a keyword search on ADOBE, detroyed all key references I could find, reinstalled and rebooted with SF 8. Still wouldn't go away. Finally, I deleted the Audio_Hardware folder under Program Files, Sony, Sound Forge Audio Studio 8.0, and re-ran SF 8.0...apparently forcing it to "Re-evaluate the system", seeing that there was no adobe driver there anymore, and it re-defaulted back to the standard windows mapper, where I could then choose what I needed it to. I hope that little bit helps someone out there that, like me, can't afford the any upgrades just yet. I love sony products, and also work with Acid a whole lot... just can't afford to upgrade SF yet. . And 8.0 still does what I need. Good luck, DJ John Duke. |
