I have SF 8.0 (ver. 8.0, build 77) on an eMachines netbook running Win7 Starter. I was recording live sound for a church function and when i went to save the file, I got an error message about the Mp3 plugin. Here's the kicker - I see the file listed on the netbook as an Mp3 with attending SFK file from Sound Forge but it will not re-open in SF or play in Win Media player. When I try to open it in Sound Forge I get the following error message: "The file format plugin for the specified format was not properly initialized." As I now know, this version of SF is NOT supported in Win7. I will be getting a newer version of SF for the netbook but can anybody help me fix the file that I have? It was an important night for the church and I would hate to lose everything. |

Check the MP3's file size. If the recording was of a significant length but the file is only a few KBs, it did not render correctly and is not recoverable. Sorry It is a good practice to initially save as a WAVE and encode an MP3 from that. I'm sure your aware, the .sfk file is a waveform file and does not contain audio. "The file format plugin for the specified format was not properly initialized" -- FWIW, I do not EVER recall seeing that message. This is most likely an SF-8 / Win-7 issue. rraud - thanks. I kind of figured that it was a Win7/SF8 issue once I found that on the Tech Support website. File size was around 3 gig of data (5 hours of recording) so it had rendered. I was finally able to open it in a freeware program I have called Audacity and get it exported to a WAV format so it would play. I'll have to find an Mp3 plugin for that prog so i can get it into that format for use anywhere. Thanks again for the reply. |
