Subject:SF8 - where do I find VST plugins?

On SF5 there were a series of DirectX headings and the VST effects were there. Under SF8 the only place I'm finding VST effects is within the plugin chainer, that can't be the only place to access them.

Where else should they be accessible?

Thanks

They are wherever you have installed them. In Options|Preferences you should have a tab to point SF at them. You can even specify multiple locations. (At least in SF 9 and 10 - can't remember for sure in SF8, but pretty sure you can).

Often C:\Program Files|VSTplugins .

What I mean is how do I apply them? Under SF5 they were under the DirectX dropdown list. Nothing like that showing up here.

They should show up in the plugin chooser.

Do you see them being detected in the startup splash screen ?

If not,, ensure that the actual plugin path location is specified.

Once I hit the "recreate by plugin name" they show up under the FX Favorites dropdown and one of the selections is for VST plugins I guess it's not much different than the "DriectX" dropdown menus.

The only thing is I wish there was some way to define out all the filters from other apps that don't apply under SF. Have the same issue with Cakewalk.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. But.. you may customize the Favorites folder w/subfolders and move plug-ins around. For instance in my main Favorites folder I have my most frequently used plug-ins. Then I have sub-folders for EQs, Dynamics, Effects, ect. You may remove any you do want to see. You may rename them as well. The plug-in chainer is also a very time saving and powerful tool. The "Preset Manager" is quite useful as well. I forget what else SF-8 included. Some were a separate download.
