New Problem - black frames

As posted elsewhere, I am able to render my projects without low memory error/crash. But I now have a new issue: on some renders, I get black frames/drop outs in the final output. The issue is only happening when I render to WMV 11 - if I render the same project to .mp4, it is fine (same resolution/bit rate). The source clips are good - no drop outs when I preview in Vegas or WMP. I recall seeing a discussion of this issue other times, but a quick search of this forum and the SCS Knowledgebase didn't help.

Any ideas?

EDIT: more info: they appear at different places in different renders (never the same place twice). They also vary in duration (1 to maybe 4 frames) and frequency. They tend to happen in last 1/3 to 1/4 of the render.

Stuff that has worked for me.

Set ram preview to zero, re-open project before render.

If it's really stubborn I've had good luck rendering the timeline to Cineform and then bringing the Cineform clip into a new project and rendering from there.

Oh, and one more thing - getting rid of all unused media can help as well.

Thanks for the reply.

A little while ago I: 1) closed out of Vegas, 2) deleted Windows temp files, 3) rebooted my computer and 4) reopened the project. After that I got two good renders. Don't know which of 1-4) solved my problem but at least I'm done with the projects for now.

i got black frames wen enabled "close media file when vegas in not in focus" thing.

on the back and forth, sometimes on entire video it's black... last week i rendered a 3h project, and after the dvd done ive found a entire "section" of the video black.... damn...

but disabling that option fix it.

Are either of you running 9d or 9e? This was a problem in 9a-9c when using still images but went away for most people with the 9d update.

Hi Mike - I'm running 9e Win 7 64. No still images in my project. Canon 5DII .mov files to .wmv 11 is the problem. .mp4 renders fine.

I'm having that problem with 9e rendering to an mpeg-2 for DVD. Source is HDV m2t. Text track is visible, but underlying video is gone. Seems to happen on transitions, but can't be certain. There are stills in the project, but not at the points where this happens. I have RAM preview set to 0MB. I have not tried the "close video file" option I've read here.

Why does this always happen when you're trying to get something out the door? I've rendered this project a million times with no problem. And now this... I installed the VLC player a couple of days ago. Do you think that would cause a problem?
