Subject:OT: How would you deliver this much audio?

I've been asked to make available the collected sermons of one of our clergy. I'm estimating there are about 220 sermons averaging 25 minutes each. The age and technical "awareness" of the intended audience varies widely. I'm not too enthused about providing 110 CDs although that would be the most technically universal solution. Right now I'm in the process of extracting the sermons from weekly CDs and converting them to high quality mp3s. Any thoughts on best ways to deliver would be appreciated. Thanks, RalphM |

Well, here's one idea. The church's tax-exempt certificate is good at a lot of wholesalers. Buy a case lot of 4GB MP3 players (at $10-$12 per unit?), preload them with the sermons and maybe a couple of choir concerts, and sell them to the faithful at a healthy markup for the church, maybe $59.95 each. 64Kbs Mono using Lame should sound terrific for speech and take up about 2.5 GB. Absolutely MV, Mono mp3s are more size/quality economical. (if stereo is not necessary) for more info on this matter, see my 4/20/10 post . http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=3&MessageID=706756 |

Thanks for the inputs - didn't know mp3 players had come down that much in price. This sounds like the most trouble free solution. I had also considered CDs with mp3 files, but not sure what percentage of CD/DVD players can play back the mp3 files. RalphM |

A lot of people bought one CD player, and still have it today. A lot of them won't even play burned CDs, much less MP3. That's one reason for going with a simple MP3 player. You could also fit it all on a single audio DVD, but a lot of people wouldn't know what to do with them. Message last edited on6/15/2010 9:07:49 AM bymusicvid10. |
