I have been trying to adjust the output sound level in SF10Pro, and have got it totally messed up. Is there someway to reset the level to the original? I began changing the level because the output was lower than both Sound Forge 7 and also Windows Media player. Is this normal? I am new to SF 10 and I can't find anything in the manual WarrenW |

Sound Forge doesn't have a level of it's own. The level is strictly dependant on the level of the signal being processed through it. Make sure you have the right driver selected in the SF prefs. Jack |

If I understand the question correctly, SF 'Pro' 9 & 10 has 'Hardware Meters' which HAS output volume control faders. These are independent of the 'Playback Meters', which do not have volume controls. Access these under the "View" menu. Audio Studio does not have this option, so volume would need to be adjusted via the sound card or externally. To reset SF to the original default settings: Press and hold Ctrl+Shift and launch SF, continue to hold the Ctrl & Shift keys until the program is loaded, A prompt window should ask: "Do you want to reset all preferences to default values?" Check mark "Delete all cached application data", click "Yes". --- Note: I think.. all preferences, custom toolbars and other user settings are reset to default as well. The answer was founnd in the top left corner of the hardware meters window,, a tiny speaker icon. Clicking on that returned the output level to normal There was no change in the appearance of the icon that I could see, but the difference in level was 12 DB Closing the window.left it at the higher level that matched the output from Vegas . In the meantime I corrected the level changes caused by altering the volume in the volume setting under the 'Process' heading That was my original mistake. This is used to change volume at specific points during the playback of the track just as in Vegas software. I am left wondering why the setting is there at all. WarrenW |

Ah, that's the "Dim Output" button. It's intended for use in those situations where you want to knock the output level down by a bit without messing up your fader settings, etc. For example, if you need talk on the phone while still monitoring playback. It doesn't seem to be documented in Sound Forge, but there is some discussion of the feature in the Vegas manual and help file. Mark |
