I am new to Vegas Pro 8. We have a big conference coming up in August and we want to be able to put MP3's of each speaker on a thumb drive to sell.

My question is, how do I put 'tags' on each file so when its put into your computers iTunes or other MP3 player software, it will show the name of the speaker and the event in stead of 'Unknown Artist'?

I also want to be able to put tracks. I put track markers in my Vegas file, but after rendering and putting into iTunes, my file is just one long track.

Please help!!

David, welcome.

Two work flows to consider. First the session per project (.veg file).

The information contained in the summary tab of the project properties (File->Properties) Title and Artist fields are placed into the mp3 ID3 tags automatically and work with most mp3 players. For example use the Title field for the session title and the Artist for the speaker and other information such as your company name or the name of the seminar. These are free form fields so be creative with the content.

The second work flow uses Trackalizer which is available for free from the VASST folks. A sign up is required but they are nice folks who are frequent contributors to Vegas forums. Install Trackalizer and be sure to read the readme.

For Trackalizer start with creating one audio track with all the sessions on it. Fill out the Artist field of the project properties as before then for each session create a region by dragging your cursor along the top of the time line for each session and hitting the "R" key. Name each region with the session name.

Run Trackalizer (Tools->Scripting->VASST Freeware->Trackalizer) and check the "Render Named Regions" and "Use Region Name as Title". Fill in the render settings, hit Ok, and sit back and watch. Describing this is more difficult than doing it and has been a real time saver.

Some general suggestions about what you are doing.

On spoken word mp3 tends to emphasize sibilants, typically hissing esses. Be careful and use the spitfish plug if needed from digitalfishphones.com.

Put some silence at the beginning, and more at the end, of each event.

Start each title with the event ID as it appears in the documentation for the attendees. For example "23b, Quantitative measure of happiness quotient" (2=second day, 3=third time slot, b=the particular session).

Have fun and be sure to practice all this before the event.
