I have some recordings from old VHS tapes. During the capture process, it added tiny "dead" portions, where the waveform is at zero. This becomes clicking and distortions. Is there a way to systematically remove all areas without having to highlight and delete?

Delete probably not the best option - you will end up the the audio getting out of synch with the video, or visual glitches if bits deleted.

Try Repair' with the 'Replace' option, to subtely fill in the dead spots.

But no - 'fraid it's 'one at at time'.

But an expert could write script to detect the dead spots and do the repair automatically, maybe ....

Best still to figure out how to prevent the dropouts that are giving the audio glitches.

In addition to Geoff's post. If there's longer durations than 0.5 seconds, then the repair/replace will not work. If deleting the compromised audio is out of the question and sync must be maintained, select & copy a few seconds or more of 'room tone', outdoor ambiance or silence, depending on your program. Select the portion of the waveform you wish to fix, right-click the highlighted selection and choose: 'Overwrite' from the menu. Only the highlighted portion will be replaced, maintaining absolute sync.
There's no 'quick and easy' way of fixing this, pre-sets, scripts or otherwise, AFAIK.
