Subject:File Explorer - Audio Preview Latency

I held back to 7.0 for the longest time and finally upgraded to 10.0 about a year ago. SF10 does seem a little slower. I have pretty much put up with it. Now that someone mentions that it was re-written for .NET makes me want to dig a bit deeper to find out how to optimize and understand how that works and affects performance in Windows 7 64 bit. The major annoyance for me is the delay/latency in the preview/browser window. It boggles my mind when I can preview audio files faster in the windows explorer or wmp faster then in the SF10 explorer. I have another audio app that has similar issues. I can preview a file in windows explorer using wmp, switch back to SF10, load up the audio file in the main workspace in about as much time as it takes to preview the same file in the SF10 explorer! LOL...whats the point in calling it preview then?! They should change the name to POSTview/listen! It actually takes about 5 seconds to preview an audio file. I have tried tweaking as many settings as I know to try and remedy such a simple issue...even changing audio drivers. If anyone has found a cure for that, it would be MUCH appreciated. |

Sound Forge 10 here on Windows XP, 32 bit. Preview latency is short enough to be unnoticeable. |

Do you have your sound card's ASIO drivers selected in Sound Forge? |

First, Sound Forge 10.0 was not "re-written for .NET", though I do find the evolution of forum rumors mildly amusing. .NET is integral to the scripting component of Sound Forge Pro (since v8.0), but little else. Perhaps you could share some more information: 1) Are you using the Open dialog or Media Explorer? 2) What file type and format you are trying to preview? 3) Which audio driver model? If you are attempting to use ASIO drivers with the same hardware set as the default Windows device, well, not all hardware handles that particularly well. It would be useful to know if the behavior is identical using a different audio device (e.g. a built-in motherboard solution). It would be useful to know if the behavior is identical independent of file type (e.g. just previewing uncompressed .wav). J. Message last edited on9/13/2010 11:31:33 AM byForumAdmin. |
