I read the prerequisite of the product acid 4.0 Pro.
They menction Windows 98 as the minimum prerequisite of the installation.
There is not Windows 95.

Do you know if I can install Acid 3.0 on a computer
based on Windows 95 ?
I cannot install Windows 98 on that machine at the moment.
Do you know what does not function if I install Acid 3.0 in Windows 95 ?

Thanks a lot.

Hello,

The whole program willnot function on Win95, because you can't use Direct X 8.0a on Win95, and Acid 3.0 is now 32 Bit program and Win95 is 16 Bit. Sorry.

Actually, this is not correct.

ACID has always been a 32 bit application. (One simple exception: We supply a win16 DLL - ACIDK.W95 - which is a 'thunk' layer for MTC generation.) Also, while parts of Win95 are 16 bit- this also exists in Win98 and WinME - the APIs that ACID 1/2/3 communicate with are the Win32 APIs.

Your reasons for ACID 3 requiring Win98+ are valid. ACID 3 requires DX8.

I am not an expert but I remember that Windows 95 is a 32 bit program that upgrade older 16 bit programs (for example Windows 3.1 and MS-DOS 6.x).
I do not know DirectX 8.0a and its carachteristics.
What type of DirectX used Acid 2.0 ?

Acid 2.0 can run on any Direct X. It's Windows 95 that won't run on Direct X 8.0a. If I remember correctly Win 95 ran on Direct X 6.0, Then it was updated to 6.5, then 7.0, then 7.1, then finnaly 8.0, then 8.0a,It is always a good idea to stay updated on all these things, unless for some reason your system just won't run with a certain update.

If it were me I would update to Win 98 SE at the minimum. I run Windows ME and I don't have any problems with any software.

Most software companies are going to keep updating their products, and sooner or later it's going to come to a point where some programs won't work anymore.

Good Luck
See ya
