Subject:Popping sound when reducing volume of a selection

When using the Volume process (under Process>Volume) to reduce the volume in a selection, I am getting a popping sound that is very loud using 10.0c. The popping sound is not in the original file. The popping sound is sharp, and it happens only at the ends of the selection, at either or both ends. I have been able to get around it only by selecting the entire wave file and globally reducing the volume. Not optimal, but the pop is not tolerable. I have never had this problem before in previous versions of Sound Forge Pro. Message last edited on11/29/2010 10:59:09 PM byCourtnoski. |

If you are going to make a sharp volume change, rather than gradual, you must mark your in/out points exactly at zero crossings, not in the middle of a waveform. |

Enable menu-bar 'Options|Snapping|Snapping' and 'SnapTo Zero Crossings' . Otherwise you will get an instantaneous change in level during an 'active' part of a wave, which sounds pretty much ike an instant of 'square wave'. geoff |

Hmmm. I have been playing around with this, and I can't replicate the pop that I was able to replicate repeatedly the other day. I had snapping on, including zero crossings. I don't know what was causing the popping, to be honest. I work with Sound Forge Pro a lot, so if it is going to happen again, I will hear it. Best, CB |
