i can start a new project and make it four tracks. then i click on file and open and add the first two tracks ( sound board) but i can't figure out how to get the second 2 tracks ( audience) into the project. Then i have to find a way to highlight just two tracks so i can sync them up. can anyone help me with this? Thanks |

I'm a bit confused by what you're trying to do. However, it sounds like you need a multi-track DAW like Acid. Sound Forge is only meant to edit multi-channel single files. Perhaps I'm not understanding what you're asking though. Maybe you can clarify a bit? |

As the poster above said, Sound Forge is not a mulitrack audio editor. Vegas is. |

i am trying to take the output of two digital recorders and sync them up in soundforge. one set of stereo tracks is from a soundboard recording and the second set of stereo tracks is from a microphone from the same concert. i can now get the two from the sound board in tracks 1& 2 in sound forge and the microphone stereo recording in tracks 3& 4 in sound forge. what i want to do is be able to sync up these tracks so it is all on the same beat. when i use adobe premiere for video editing i can highlight one video track and hold down the alt button and use the arrow keys to move one of the video tracks by one frame at a time so that all video tracks are in sync. i want to be able to do that with audio files in sound forge if possible... Thanks |

Again, Sound Forge is not a multi-TRACK editor, it can edit multi-CHANNEL files. Tracks and channels are very different. You need a multi-track DAW to do what you're trying to do. Acid is your best bet for this kind of mixing. You can also try Reaper. Sorry, but SF just isn't designed to do what you're attempting. |

You *can* do this in SoundForge (at least the versions that handle more than 2 channels), as long as you don't mind beating your head on the walls a little bit. Create a new 4-channel file, leave it empty. Open one of the stereo sources, highlight it, copy it, and paste into channels 1 & 2 of the empty 4 channel file. Open the other stereo source, highlight it, copy it, and paste into channels 3 & 4. If it comes too early, undo, move the cursor to the right a bit, and paste again. Repeat until it's right. If it comes to late, start over, paste that one first, then try lining up the first source instead. If they don't run the same speed then you'll have to make corrections before copy & pasting into the combined 4-channel file. This is why everyone recommends using an actual multi-track editor instead of SoundForge. |

As Chien said, you can easily 'record' multiple channels of audio in SF-10. ( with a multi-channel soundcard of course) However 'wild syncing' them would problematic at best, if the two recorders were w/o a word-clock and TC. There's also the distinct possibility the two pairs of tracks will drift out in sync if it's a 'long' duration program. Vegas or Acid would be much easier with the ability to move events (tracks) (to the sample level) and stretch or shorten drifting tracks. |

i was able to get all four tracks into SF like you said but now how to line them up is the problem. if i could only highlight 2 tracks and slide them one way or the other to sync them at the start then i could use the time strecth tool to expand or contract one at the end to keep them in sync i would be golden.... |
