Subject:Need help with markers and regions.....

I have read all the previous posts I could find about how to break up a long audio file into topics or chapters.

I am editing a 2 hour lecture and it needs to have different topics so people can fast forward to search to the topic they want.

It does not need to have silence separators.

I do not understand what to do. I have SF 10.

If someone could tell me step by step I would greatly appreciate it. I know it has something to do with markers and regions. I put markers in, but when I saved the file in wav and mp3 no markers showed up. I saved on cd and no markers either.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Bennington

What is the final format? Audio CD, MP3?

In order for Markers and/or Regions to be saved with the file. Check-mark the box, "Save Metadata with file" in the 'Save' window.

Hi and thank you,

The final format will be an audio cd in mp3 format to be sold at the lectures and also mp3 file format so people can buy and download from website to their computers or ipods. He wants people to be able to find specific topics quickly.

I'll look for the checkbox in the save window and let you know how it works.

thank you for your reply......

An 'Audio CD' cannot and does not contain MP3 files., though one can burn an CD-A from MP3s, but whats the sense.
Do you mean a CD-ROM containing MP3 files. In that case you would make a "Playlist".

Yes, I mean I'd like to burn a cd with mp3 files. It's one long lecture file and I would like to have topic sections so people can skip to what they want to hear.

thanks

In that case, I think you will need to break your long file (wave, mp3 or other) into separate MP3 segment files using SF.

For the following, I use Winamp 2.8 to do this. I have not used SF to create a playlist control file, nor do I know if it would even work with third party audio player applications or devices.
From the segments, create a 'Playlist' file which will have a .m3u extension. In Winamp you can just drag the desired MP3s into the playlist window and arrange the order. Using winamp you may also edit the ID3 meta data The listener can then select a single segment or multiple segments from they're MP3 player or player application such as Winamp. The .m3u playlist file and MP3 files must be in the same root or sub-folder.
You may add or edit the optional 'ID3' metadata info in SF or Winamp.

I am not an expert in this aspect of production, so I would certainly explore other options.

PS: There will be short silent spaces between the selected segments, so this would not be good for a continuous 'live music' type project.
