Subject:How do I adjust record level in 9.0?

I just got Sound Forge 9.0 with a Sony USB turntable and I want to record some vinyl. Well, the record level meters (or peak meters) are at 45 BEFORE I even begin to record audio. My computer is using Windows 7 and has something called Microsoft Sound Mapper. I have no idea how to adjust the "main" volume coming into the computer to start with. When I start recording, the peak meters shoot WAAAAY up to beyond 0.0 and I am sure the audio is clipping.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Search the internet for instructions on adjusting the "Record" mixer level for your particular version of Windows (not the Playback volume).

This issue is between Windows and your sound interface, not Sony Sound Forge.

Thank you. Yeah, it's strange. I just want to be able to turn the record volume down..I guess I can look into Windows 7 settings and maybe even Toshiba, the maker of my laptop.

Anyone have any idea where the recod level settings would be in Windows 7 using Sound Mapper? Just throwing it out there.

RE: How do I adjust record level in 9.0?

Sorry, I don't have Win 7, but if it's anything like Vista, "Start> Settings> Control panel> Sound> Recording" Double click the appropriate input source and select 'Levels'. Adj. the input whilst viewing the Windows input meters..or better yet, the record meters in SF.
This procedure may vary some depending on your soundcard and OS.
Set the levels as high as possible WITHOUT exceeding 0.0dBFS. (clipping)

Your sound interface may also have it's own mixer applet in the system tray, with that control.

geoff
