I've been using WaveLab (Essentials) for years, down loading audio using M-Audio's USB device... I don't remember setting anything up. It just worked (once the M-Audio device was detected) I would VIEW/CONTROL BARS/TRANSPORT and click the Red Dot to Record... I'm NOT seeing anything like this in Sound Forge (and I am trying to forego going thru the documentation for the moment...) Any quick tips on what I am missing??? |

"and I am trying to forego going thru the documentation for the moment" Sorry, I learned how to do this by reading the documentation. I wouldn't know how to begin to explain it to you . . . ;?) |

Typically, the transport controls are visible by default. I've never had to set them up in SF upon first starting. View-->Toolbars and then make sure "Transport" is checked. Not sure what else to tell you. What version of SF are you using? BTW, never admit to people on a forum that you haven't read the documentation, because that's a great way to get flamed for not reading the documentation. BTW, BTW, always read the documentation first. Rob. |

" ..I am trying to forego going thru the documentation for the moment...) . Any quick tips on what I am missing???" How about basic initative and even a tiny little bit of drive ? If you can't be bothered reading the Help, Manual, or simply cruising around the obvious menus, then try Options | Preferences | Audio , and select the device you want. The default is the Windows default device - maybe your 'onboard' soundcard. geoff Message last edited on2/28/2011 2:03:12 PM byGeoff_Wood. |

Oh, because I thought it would be a simple problem that a lot of people - using a USB input - would know about... and the answer (if at all) would be buried in poorly indexed documentation... (and I have a thich skin for poetasters who live to flame...) Yes, I verified that the Transport Icon is available... and that's where the Sound Forge product differs from WaveLab, in that WaveLab (somehow) automatically detects there is a USB device plugged in and pops up a monitor that shows the Input sound being recieved.. No such luck here... (Hmmm... what should I bet that Sound Forge isn;t even able to recieve input from an M-Audio input device... or even any proprietory device and I simply assumed (from the limited sales information) that these two products were compatible for this function??? g |

Oh, sorry. it's Sound Forge Pro 10 and I did verfiy that M-Audio is selected on the OPTIONS/PREFERENCES/AUDIO tab... It does allow me to select the M-Audio USB AISO driver on the drop down list and it does say "connected" but that's about the end of it... There doesn't seem to be a "monitor" that confirms the Sound Forge is - actually - picking up any audio signal from the USB Input as a source... nor is there anything recorded on the Transit when I, optimistically, hit record in the hopes that something is being picked up and just hidden under some, as yet, undispalyed window... So I guess it's into that little ol' documentation... I'll let ya know if I find anything... g |

My Transit works fine. Can hear the Monitor signal when I click the Monitor box on the record dialogue ( Help | Index | Record = Monitor The Audio Input is the first item on the list....). Maybe your Transit driver installation has become screwed up somehow ? geoff |
