Does this only apply to VST plugs.
Did the Plug-in Chainer work before?
Can we assume the Plug-in Chainer main window opens normally? ( View> Plug-in Chainer )
Can you see the folders and/or lists after clicking, "Add plug-ins to chain" ?

Thank you for responding so quickly, # 1 It happens with all plugs

2. Plug in chainer, no...just got it
3. The plug in chooser ( at the top opens normally) and can see all the folders and effects, but when we click on one of the effects in the chain, we get nothing
4. we answered this in question # 3...I think..? Thanks for any help or idea's you may have, Always the Best, Gary

I forgot to add, that everything works, but you can't see it to tweak it....

Just checking you are using this correct

- when you have selected and Added desired plugin(s) in CHOOSER, you must click OK - then you should see the CHAINER window pop into view, and the desired plugins should be visible now as you select them.....

-or-

- if above is what you are doing, and you just can't see the CHAINER window, perhaps it has been saved out of view somehow (e.g. on another screen). To retrieve, must first get that window into focus (hard to know) by selecting some other window e.g. the soundfile. then call Plug-in Chainer to view (by selecting Plug-in Chainer in View Menu, or making sure that menu item has a small square around it = selected) and press (on keyboard)
Alt+Spacebar
M
any Arrow key (of the group of 4, not on numeric keys)
.... now move mouse .... it should 'grab' the window and pull it into view.

Christo is correct, you must click "Add" for each plug-in you wish to use, then click "OK" to initiate the selected plug-in(s) window which have the normal pre-sets and other adjustment parameters. You may also add additional plug-ins to chain later on if so desired.

we can see the Chainer, but we can not see the plug ins when we click on the chain, on any of the plugs, in the chain....

when we click on a plug in, in the chain, the plug in box indents and that is as far as it goes, it does not pull up the plug in ??

the plug in does not pop up as it is supposed to ???? in short, I can not see the plug in....

there are two of us looking at it on this end, and neither of us can see what it is, and my friend who has used Sound Forge for the last few years, and he has gone over everything he can think of,,,,maybe a re-install ?? we are trying not to do this, But.....if we have to :) We have even tried a, Save As, not that it matters and still, no go ?? As I said before, I can go up to the top ( Tool Bar) FX Fav's and everything will pop up from there, and I may just have to use it that way, or try re-install, but....cause we are both out of idea's.....

Well, as far as I know the Chainer will show one of the Plugins by default as soon as it is opened, and the window will auto-size for the relavent GUI, so indeed you have a problem. Probably first step is reinstall. Also check your setup meets minimum system requirements (e.g. service pack, .NET framework, DirectX etc) for your soundforge version.
Just to check, does your window look exactly like this at top?

This might be crazy, but sometimes Windows Themes cause UI problems.

Your Windows global veiw configuration could be different from Chrsto's or mine. I use Window's Classic view and Chrsto's is XP I believe... which either way personal preference and neither here nor there.
When you open the "Plug-in Chooser" window (green icon), do you see these folders (or some of these folders) in the root folder?
- All
- Sony
- Third Party
- Direct X
- VST
- Automatable
- Packaged chains
- FX Favorites

Sorry Gary for more questions than answers but,
Are the above folders appear empty or grayed out, or did you already state that the individual plug-ins are there but just do not load?
Are you running Norton's anti-virus? ( previously known to cause problems)
Are there any other audio programs installed that could be 'hijacking' the plug-ins?.. though I doubt that's the issue here.
Have you tried re-installing SF? If you go this route it may be a good idea to uninstall using a third party uninstaller like Revo which wipes the previous registry entries as well.

(NOTE: please fill in your system's specs in your profile)

No, they are not empty
No to Norton's Anti V ( my buddy runs with no problems)
No to any other audio programs hijacking, only Sound Forge on laptop
have not, as of yet tried re-installing, don't have revo

rraud, when we click on the clover leaf, the pop up box is called "plug in chooser" not plug in chainer, don't think that would make a difference, but we are trying to find anything that could be missing...thanks, Gary

we are going to do a re-install, my buddy says that he has only used this,( Sound Forge) for Mastering and Wave editing, he has never used it bothered with the Chainer, that's his take, but we are sure others use it in different ways, its all good...I will let you know what happens, you guys have been diligent and great with your help ! Thanks, Gary

I find the chainer invaluable. How is one otherwise supposed to anticipate how the processes' will interact before hand. ( though I use to have to submix tracks back in the 4-8 trk. analog dark ages)

Gary, that picture I posted above is SoundForgePro Version10c, in WinXPPro.

you wrote to rraud > when we click on the clover leaf, the pop up box is called "plug in chooser" not plug in chainer, don't think that would make a difference, but we are trying to find anything that could be missing...

Yes, that is what I first said ... plugin CHOOSER and CHAINER are different animals .... must select required plugins in CHOOSER, press OK.
Then you can open CHAINER from the View Menu, or from little green icon below soundfile....

we re-installed and still having the same problem, we see that they chooser and chainer are two different things, I am using Sound Forge 10c with Windows 7 Home premium, we are not able to get to chainer from the View, when we click on it it disappears and we minimize the window and it is nowhere to be found,I guess I will just have to open it from the Tool Bar and go with that,,,,,we are all stumped, :) Thanks so much for hanging with me and Trying, Gary
