Problem with scoring video

I own both VMS 10 HD Plat and Acid pro 7. Want to ask a question of users of Vegas Pro...

Because I use VST instruments and MIDI track to create my music, with my current software I have had to create the video in VMS and then create the music soundtrack in Acid Pro inserting the video file into my Acid Project.

There is a bad bug in the latest version of Acid Pro 7 that when you record a MIDI file, the only way to have it playback thru the VST is to close Acid and reopen it. Every time. Without fail. Fatal for a MIDI musician.

Does Vegas allow you to record MIDI files and use VST instruments? I dont see anything about it in the product specs. It would be a dream to be able to compose like I can in Acid at the same time as editing my video!

Thanks for your help!
Flo

There has not been an update to Acid Pro 7 in over 15 months. Was wondering if

No.

Hi Flo, Vegas has no facility to do this. When I have to write from scratch (I also use MIDI and samples) I use an audio program called Nuendo. It is brilliant. Although mostly designed for audio ( not MIDI) it has enough MIDI capability to get done what I need. You have to have the finished video track imported but everything syncs really well. It's not cheap though :-( I am also looking into the new Pro-Tools 9 which is PC capable... multiple video tracks too, although I love my Vegas and will stick to it like poo poo to a blanket! :-)

Pro Tools 9 is certainly an improvement, especially the open architecture, but MIDI has never been it's strong point. As China mentioned for scoring, using sample libraries, VSTs, etc. another application is needed besides Vegas.( Interestingly enough Vegas started out as an audio program...long time ago)
I just finished scoring a 6 episode web series. I used Vegas as the main project deposit, video and for the simple stings and 1or 2 track audio parts. For anything more complex or that need soft synths I used SONAR which has worked well for me. I hear Nuendo is very good, especially for post production but have no experience with it. It is very expensive but Steinberg has another program called Cubase which is like SONAR cost wise. Again I have no experience with Cubase. SONAR has been my go-to audio app.

Another vote for SONAR.
