Subject:Sound Forge on Mac with Parallels Desktop

Sometimes it is useful to have Windows based Sony Sound Forge as an audio editor while working on a Mac. Although DP has some nice wav editing tools, for quick and dirty audio file editing, you really can't get any quicker and simpler then Sound Forge. You will need Parallels Desktop for this application.

Today I finally figured out how to record digital audio into Sound Forge in Parallels using my trusty old Roland VS880EX (now with Compact Flash instead of original whiny IDE Hard Drive) as a digital source. Need to set M-Audio Firewire or your favorite audio interface to Digital over Coax (or Optical if you are lucky enough to have that kind). Then open Ableton Live or Digital Performer and record on channels 3 and 4 with Monitor "In" setting. Set Mac input to Firewire, and output to SoundFlower. On the Windows side, set Parallels sound to input SoundFlower and Output Mac built-in to hear playback over Mac speakers.

Note: Cannot record directly into Sound Forge on Parallels without a Mac sound recording application. If someone has found a way to do this, please let me know.
