If you have no need for it, don't bother installing it.
If you find that you do need it, consider installing QuickTime Alternative instead.

This is the first time I've heard of QuickTime Alternative.

The webpage says it can playback QT files but will it install a codec to allow encoding of QT files?

What is the advantage of QTA over QT? QT is a nightmare when I use it to encode MOV files. A workable alternative would be great.

Please share your experience. Thanks.

Kimberly,
The other thing QT is used for is TIFF still files.
But if you convert them to PNG first, no worries.

No.

"No."

Thanks!

Thanks everyone. Quicktime and the whole Apple thing is so invasive. I'm glad to know I can skip it based on my current workflow.

Never-EVER put iTunes on your editing computer. Some people do and get away with it, but the overwhelming opinion is that Apple will eventually break something on your PC.

Man, do I ever agree about iTunes! What crap.

I think Apple took out iTunes from the Quicktime Player installation. Now when you install Quicktime, you only get Quicktime Player.

Intel Core i7 10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz (to 4.65GHz), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8GBytes. Memory 32 GBytes DDR4. Also Intel UHD Graphics 630. Mainboard: Dell Inc. PCI-Express 3.0 (8.0 GT/s) Comet Lake. Bench CPU Multi Thread: 5500.5 per CPU-Z.

My experience with Quicktime is that you get the installer updater that constantly tries to update Quicktime, iTunes, and Safari and then you must say "no" every time the updater tries to update. It's not a big deal when I'm home, but when I'm overseas this eats away at my paid Internet time and it's annoying.

Kimberly, In QuickTime player, go" Edit - Preferences - QuickTime Preferences - Update" and make sure "Check for updates automatically" is NOT selected.
Problem solved :)
