I have been a SVP user for 5 years and love it. This summer I bought my first iMac to try to become efficient in both SVP and FCPX. I have now been using them side by side for 6 weeks, and here's my (very) quick thoughts:
+ SVP continues to be MUCH more user friendly than FCPX. Tools that require multiple keyboard shortcuts in FCPX are simply right where they should be in SVP10.
+ FCPX does not handle a few video formats (STILL!) that SVP handles with ease. Amazed that Apple is still that far behind.
+ FCPX has a MAJOR bug when rendering...I get significant audio distortion when using certain audio files in FCPX...and it's not just me, try googling "FCPX audio pop"
+ Here's the biggest issue for me: the magnetic timeline...seems like a cool idea at first, but not having multiple tracks for the pieces of the editing puzzle to wait in while I move other pieces around makes editing MUCH slower and more difficult. Seriously, I really hope Apple gives that up. It's not really helpful for professional editors.
All that being said, FCPX had one MAJOR advantage over SVP10 and that will keep me from abandoning FCPX completely - effects and titling.
Sony, please consider how FCPX has an enormous stable of great effects and text titling built in which help add to a professional editors finished product. While I have learned SVP's text editor really well, I like being able to use FCPX's text effects to have more creative choices and jumping off points.
Thanks for considering!
