Rendering a project with cineform footage

david-ruby wrote on 9/10/2011, 10:16 AM
I have a project where we took dslr footage and ran it thru cineform to edit better and also have hdv 24 footage that is being combined as well. Properties for the project are set for the cineform which is 1920x1080 24.
We are rendering to a dvd architect template of widescreen 24. Does this sound right?Or should we render to something else to make standard dvds. Wish they would have went with bluray. ; )
Thanx

If your source is 4:3 then keep it that way for your DVD. If 3:2 then I would make it 16:9 with pillar boxing (vertical bars left and right).

Edit: Sorry, I forgot the HDV. Definitely make it 16:9 with pillar boxing of the DSLR footage.

Well the footage has already been converted to 16:9, so just a question of the rendering format for DVDA. When you say "they" I presume you mean your clients, so you have selected the correct template: DVD Architect 24p NTSC widescreen video stream.

I've been led to believe that in Vegas your project properties should match you output render settings and you should use "Best" when resizing down. You don't match your project settings to your source media unless your source media has the same properties as your output render settings.

Intel Core i7 10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz (to 4.65GHz), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8GBytes. Memory 32 GBytes DDR4. Also Intel UHD Graphics 630. Mainboard: Dell Inc. PCI-Express 3.0 (8.0 GT/s) Comet Lake. Bench CPU Multi Thread: 5500.5 per CPU-Z.

I've been led to believe the opposite. It really doesn't matter what your project properties are but editing will run smoother if your project properties match your source (or the most troublesome source if it is mixed).

However the project properties pane is where you set deinterlace method and rendering quality, which do affect your render. I think they should be moved to, or at least duplicated in, the main render pane, but SCS didn't ask my opinion.

EDIT
Some things, such as 5.1 audio to stereo, get converted on import according to your project settings. Once converted, there is no going back (except by starting a new project with different settings).

"you should use "Best" when resizing down"

and you should (read must, or you will be sorry) use a deinterlace method other than "none".
