KShahrukh wrote on 9/15/2011, 6:24 PM
Okay so I just purchased this software from Best buy which has a no refund on opened Software. Well that is why I made sure the specs matched my pc. It installed everything perfectly. But then when I attempted to play a very short clip maybe 8 seconds long mpeg, mp4 and av format and the mp4 did not even show up, but the two other files played for like 3 seconds then Vegas said it had stopped working, and this happens every time. Please all I want is a program that works, I cant download more software on my new computer, please can someone help.

How fast is your processor, how much RAM do you have and what operating system are you working on?

What kind of camcorder was your MP4 recorded on? Vegas Movie Studio can work well with miniDV, tape-based HDV and hard disk-based AVCHD footage. It works less efficiently with video from non-camcorder sources, such as video from phones and video downloaded from the internet.

A good rule of thumb is that, if you're going to edit MP4s or AVCHD video, you have at least a quad core or i7 processor and 4 gigs of RAM.

That's my laptop, I rather show you then try to find out and give you the wrong information. Well that stuff was not recommended on the box, so I assumed I should not have problem with at least being able to edit it.

I am using a HD PVR to capture my ps3 game play.
I mean is there anything a guy with no money can do to fix this. I know no one is actually going to care about one persons problem, I already emptied my pockets.

Assuming you are using Vegas 11, a core i7 should be more than enough to handle the program. The two previous versions (9 & 10) might give you problems because it is very buggy no matter how powerful your sytsem is, but the latest 11 should do fine at your specs. I know because I am currently using 11 Platinum with a Toshiba Satellite Intel Core 2 Duo running at only 4GB.

No... I dont have money for that, it is actually just vegas movie studio hd version 9.

Time to upgrade buddy, because 9 & 10 are dogs!

I just said I am low on cash and I purchased this at best buy, dont comment if your not helping.

Can you advise us which project settings you selected when you started your project?

An i5 laptop may be just a bit anemic for editing a lot of MP4 and AVCHD video. Though, as has been said above, version 11 of Vegas Movie Studio does handle this type of video more efficiently and stably.

HD PVR footage is notorious for not working with Windows video editors, not just Vegas.

One thing that works for some is to run your video through the "Quickstream Fix" utility in VideoRedo. It has a free trial.

Another thing you might try is to remux your video in AVIDemux, which is free.

Doing a forum search for PVR or Hauppauge will get you some more discussion on this.

You can also download the trial version of VMS 11 and see how it handles your footage.

Don't comment if I'm not helping??? How about learn how to read above my first response to your posts.
The thing is if you want to continue having sluggish performance, stick with the older versions -- because that's what 9 & 10 are! No matter how you to try, there will be no remedies UNLESS you upgrade. I have 9, 10, and with some exceptions; SONY took care of me with the newest 'Platinum 11' edition. So far the latest version is the answer.

I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just saying I dont have the money to buy the new version. I obviously would love to have it. But I just purchased this version 9 at best buy because that is all I had. I dont know why Best Buy would still be selling it to be honest. If there was a way to get Platinum 11 for no money that would be great, but I right now I am just trying to fix what I payed for.

There are promotions going on for existing Sony software customers where you can get it upgraded at a very affordable price. You can also try calling customer service and see if they are willing to work with you and 'maybe' sweeten things up a bit. I have bought MANY softwares from Sony, but the two previous versions of Vegas 9 & 10 has given me nothing but problems (similar to your situation), of course version 10 was upgraded with a promo, but this time I wasn't gonna let the latest '11' edition slip away unless I can get it at $0.00 -- which Sony had agreed to!
My situation might differ from yours but it doesn't hurt to call them and explain your dilemma; and as far as I know, an upgrade is the ONLY solution to your problem.

I cant find any actual contact information because the last time I emailed it said this is a legacy software and they dont have tech support anymore.

Hey man, your a life saver. I did not know Sony would be so friendly in helping me get a version that would work. I did not get platinum lol, but I did get version 11 oh home studio hd which works with m2ts but is a little funky with mp4 but not a big deal.

All it takes is a friendly call. Congrats!

Hi I had similar problems with Movie Studio HD 9 (Download Version) but only when I added a transition or title etc. If I put a clip on the timeline with no effect added, it worked fine. I upgraded to Movie Studio HD 9 Platinum and it resolved the issue. Have Sony not been able to help?

I bought a HDR-TD10e 3D video-camera, a perfect machine. Very unfortunately SONY had a special offer for a free piece of software that could handle 3D editing, it is named VEGAS MOVIE STUDIO HD PLATINUM 11.0. This software simply does not work with 3D. I have installed the upgrades, but it remains crashing 99 of the 100 times. I use Windows-7, 8GB RAM, I/7 quad Core processor and do occasionally get a message Insufficient Memory. Normally the program simply stops or comes up with not/understandable messages.
I must have answered SONY's automatic reply system about 30 times each time giving my email address but never received a response. This software is a disgrace and the lack of response to comments is at least impolite.

Hi. I'm still having issues with my sony vegas hd platinum 10. I did download the trial version of 11, but I still have the issue of the software closing once I drag the video clips to the timeline. I'm assuming the trial version has everything that the regular one would have. I have also sent many e-mails to Sony, but am yet to receive a response.
Steve Grisetti wrote on 10/5/2011, 7:19 AM
It might be a good idea to start a new thread with this issue, snow, since it may or may not be the same issue as the original poster.

Be sure to list what type of camcorder your video came from and how you're getting it into your computer.

It also might be helpful to list your computer specs including the speed of your processor, your operating system, your RAM load and how much free, clean, freshly defragmented space is on your hard drive(s).
