Subject:OT: Looking for sound help!

I have about 3 minutes of audio, shot with not so good mics and they have wind sounds occasionally and in some cases bird calls that are surprisingly loud.

My soundforge and audio editing skills are rudimentary at best. Are there services that can help (for $ of course!). I mean, if I send off a .wav, can I pay someone to send it back cleaned up?

How much does that kind of service cost?

Is it inappropriate to ask for this on this board?-if so I will edit this message.

Thanks

Not inappropriate at all. But also maybe not possible to get much of a godd result with this type of interfering noise.

Have you tried noise-gating ?

Thanks Geoff,
Have not tried noise gate, don't even know what it is honestly!

Looking into it now, maybe I can figure it out.

For wind noise, (assuming it's the plosive type) you can try an 'Equalizer' (aka, EQ) with a 'Low cut' preset to start with. After that, inserting a noise gate (or expander) may give acceptable results if you have background music or other S/FX going...

Moving the Threshold causes sounds with level below the threshold to be muted. Won' work for loud wind noise during wanted material, and at best sounds a little unnatural in the 'silent' bits.
