strange problem....

further to my checked shirt problem, i'm reposting the tail end of my reply under a new thread:

my m2t render was perfect, but when i tried rendering from the hdv tl directly to dvd mpg i had the following problem keep cropping up:

there's a few pics (png's) over a talking head - and they're cropped to fill screen, which they do properly in both m2t and mp4 renders,BUT when i rendered direct to dvd mpg i'm getting about 10>15 pixels of the underlying talking head showing either side?

it's never happened before and i haven't changed any of my workflow...

any thoughts?

(i'd post shots, but as mentioned earlier, it's government stuff so i can't).

What happens if you change the project settings to match the output DVD settings? Does the timeline preview then look the same as is on the DVD Mpeg? I'm kind of curious.

this shows what i'm talking about:

and bob's explanation makes sense

the aspect ratio is different for 16:9 in HD and SD. So when you changed your project's properties to SD the frame is slightly wider and if you'd cropped a still to exactly fill the HD frame it no longer will exposing a few pixels on either side.

interestingly enough in all the time i've been editing with vegas (since 4), i never knew that!!! mind you, this is the first time i've turn on 'match ratio' in prefs. think i might just turn it off again ;-(
