Subject:SMPTE sync problem

Long time user of ACID since 1.0.
NEVER had a problem syncing ADATs and/or 2" to SMPTE.

ACID 3.0 not only does not accurately SYNC, the dialog box has COMPLETELY changed: (1) SMPTE isn't even mentioned anymore; (2) no place to set a SMPTE offset.

We noticed the SAME problem with VEGAS - wouldn't sync, etc.

Anyone else having similar problems, and/or any advice?

Thanks.

Hi greg- Just a couple responses.

>(1) SMPTE isn't even mentioned anymore;

Yes it is. If you select a device undeer Generate MIDI Timecode settings or Trigger from MIDI Timecode settings - you will get a choice of SMPTE time formats to select from under frame rate.

>(2) no place to set a SMPTE offset.

Again, there is but it's slightly hidden. To specify a SMPTE offset-
1. Set your cursor at the beginning of your project
2a. Go to View > Time Ruler > Set Time at Cursor. (note: if your time ruler is not set to display SMPTE frame rate you might want to change it).
2b. The other option is to right click the Time Ruler and select Set Time at Cursor

>the dialog box has COMPLETELY changed:
The dialog has only changed slightly. (I'm assuming you are referring to the Sync dialog under Preferences). Compare them side to side- it's almost exactly the same.

>ACID 3.0 not only does not accurately SYNC,
Can you be more specific? Are you using ACID as the master device or simply triggering? How are your devices connected? What devices are you using?
We need specifics.

Thanks. Hope some of this helps.
Happy Mixing!

Jenn,

Thanks for the reply. I will check out all the info that you gave me. The answer to your last question is that we have been using ACID slaved to time code coming off 2" tape or from the BRC. The time code goes into the Opcode Studio 64 - which converts it into Midi TC for the computer.

With ACID 2.0, there was never a problem, but since the upgrade, there have been some glitches.

Any thoughts???

PS - Vegas seems to have very similar problems as the ACID upgrade - although at that time, ACID 2.0 was always working fine.

Thanks,

Greg
